Do I Need a W3 Certified Downdraft Bench?
If your workshop processes stainless steel or other high-alloy metals, a standard filtered bench isn't enough. Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a fan with my downdraft bench?
Only if you don't already have a centralised ducted extraction system. If you have existing ducting, a bench without a fan can connect directly to it. If not, choose a bench with a built-in fan (for ducting outside) or a self-contained filtered model.
What's the difference between a filtered bench and a W3 certified bench?
Both filter fumes and recirculate clean air back into the workshop. A standard filtered bench is suitable for unalloyed or low-alloy steel. If you weld stainless steel or other high-alloy metals, you need a W3 certified bench, which is tested to remove at least 99% of pollutants, including carcinogenic particles from high-alloy welding.
